10 Must Have Custom Kitchen Trends

Custom kitchens have grown in popularity over the years, and for good reason. They often last longer and are of higher quality than their mass-produced counterparts. They ensure that every square foot of available space is utilized. And perhaps most importantly, they’re built with the needs and wants of your specific family in mind.

But the freedom that comes with going custom can also be overwhelming. The options are nearly endless: Do you go traditional? Or spice things up with dual-toned cabinets? What kind of layout do you want? How much storage space do you need? What’s better: gold or silver hardware?

We’re here to help. Without further ado, we present the custom kitchen trends you should consider for your own project. These features will give you the upscale, on-trend look you’re searching for:

1) Hidden Pantries

Your kitchen hosts a LOT of machines: toasters, coffee makers, air fryers. While all of these items make your cooking experience a whole lot more convenient, they also create clutter on the surface of your counter. And unless you feel like manually pulling each appliance out of the cupboard as needed, that clutter will stay.

Hidden pantries rectify that issue by concealing loose items behind a ‘wall’ or cabinet door. You can get creative when it comes to the execution of this trend (hinge entries, accordion-style doors), but the concept is the same. Just remember to include plenty of outlets along the back of your hidden pantry!

2)    Dual-Toned Cabinets

Colours may come and go into style, but dual-toned cabinets are here to stay. They refer to kitchens with two tints/colours on the cabinets. While it’s popular to have one colour on the bottom and another on top, you can also create a feature wall or make your island stand out using this tactic.

3)    Reeded / Paned Glass

Give your guests just a hint of what’s behind the cabinet doors with reeded or paned glass. It’s a great way to add some visual interest and texture to your kitchen area in an understated way.

To create an upscale, party-ready look, fill the cabinet with wine glasses and champagne flutes. If you have a built-in wine rack below, all the better: you officially have a bar area.

4)    Colourful Marble

Marble has been a kitchen classic for years, and its popularity isn’t going to change anytime soon. What has changed, however, is the type of marble people are gravitating towards.

More and more, Calcutta and Thassos marbles are being passed over in favor of colourful versions.

Think forest greens and deep turquoise shades. Paired with gold hardware, sleek cabinets, and a minimalistic vibe, it’s a design choice that will most definitely make a statement.

5)    Natural Accents

What do popular bohemian and farmhouse style decors have in style? A focus on nature-inspired materials like wood, rattan, linen, and wicker. Stay on trend by incorporating them into your design. Consider taking it a step further by using natural wood cabinets as a kitchen feature. Whether your main colour palette is light or dark, it will act as the perfect complement.

6)    Mixed Metal Hardware + Fixtures

Think you have to choose between silver, gold, and black? Not so. As long as you keep things to a 70/30 ratio and carry the colours through the rest of your design, mixing metals is absolutely fine and very on-trend. We think it looks particularly good when paired with dual-toned cabinets!

7)    Pull-Out Cabinets

Gone are the days where you have to spend five minutes shuffling through your cabinets in order to find one item. Modern cabinets frequently feature interior pull-out drawers that ensure everything within easy reach. You can also use this feature to restore functionality to your corner storage areas.

8)    Lower Drawers

As an alternative to #7 on our list, you could always directly install drawers in the lower level of the kitchen. The benefits are much the same, but with an added touch of style and convenience. This is a feature you really can’t go wrong with.

9)    Waterfall Countertops

Nothing screams “high end” like a sleek waterfall design. Whether you choose to keep things clean with white quartz or make a statement with verde oasis marble, it will elevate the look of your overall kitchen.

And if you really love the streamlined look it provides, consider extending that material to the backsplash! You’ll have an ultra-modern, ultra-sleek space.

10)  Dramatic Backsplashes

Eye-grabbing colours, dramatic patterns, interesting textures, and unexpected configurations. This year, consider making your backsplash the star of the show and keeping everything else clean and simple. It’s a perfect way to add interest without creating any clutter.

As you think about your options and peruse these custom kitchen trends, don’t forget to keep your personal design preferences in mind. You want something that you can love and enjoy for years and years to come.
